Assess Your Travel Plans

It can be tough enough to pack well. Throw a baby or toddler and a foreign country into the mix, and it can be downright overwhelming. This step-by-step tutorial will walk you through the entire process, helping you decide what must go, what needs to stay home and which are the best baby travel gear items for your trip.

First of all, sit down and seriously assess your travel plans. Will this be a road trip, where you can easily keep items in the car? Will you be traveling the rails, attempting to run up and down stairs with luggage and a stroller? Will you be a single parent traveling with babies, or will you be an entire family with at least one adult helping?

Are you visiting family, who can help and may already have baby items on hand? Will you go to one city, or bounce around from village to village? Will you primarily spend the vacation in museums, or will you be climbing mountains? Will you stay in a fancy hotel or a family campground?

All of these considerations make a significant impact on how you will pack. You are trying to determine how much you can bring, how difficult it will be to lug baby gear and luggage around, whether you will have help and whether you will need specialty items. Once you have a good grasp of you travel situation, move on to Step Two: Choosing the Perfect Suitcase or Travel Bag.
