Lourdes is famous for its pilgrims who have been arriving here since the mid 19th century when Bernadette Soubirous had the first of 18 visions of the Virgin Mary. Welcoming so many pilgrims each year, it has more hotels than any city in France apart from Paris and many restaurants. Lourdes is very near the Spanish border and the A64 autoroute which connects Biarritz to Toulouse.
