Paris is one of the world's most expensive cities. That doesn't mean a vacation there has to break the bank. There are numerous attractions, sights and things to do in Paris that don't cost a single dime. In fact, there are so many you could spend your whole trip devoted to free attractions. Here are some of the top free Paris attractions and sights.

1. The Seine River

One of the most alluring images of Paris is of the Seine River, which slices a path through the heart of the City of Light. Lovers kiss atop its bridges, action scenes in films have been shot on its banks and it is the subtle symbol of this lovely city. Best of all, you can see the river in all its splendor without it costing any money. Be sure to check out the various bridges, each of which has its own unique charm and personality.

2. The Eiffel Tower

Sure, you have to pay to ride to the top of the tower. But who wants to stand in a crazy long line anyway? If your budget is too tight, don't despair. You can take in this architectural splendor from below, or truly from almost anywhere in the city. The Eiffel Tower can be spotted from just about any spot in Paris.

3. Notre Dame Cathedral

One of the world's most stunning pieces of architecture and the inspiration for a classic novel, this cathedral is a free treasure for tourists. Yes, there are ways to spend money here (to climb to the towers or visit the museum). But it doesn't cost a dime to walk inside and around the lovely cathedral. The cathedral also hosts several free concerts.

4. Fragonard Perfume Museum (Le Musee du Parfum)

Take a free guided tour of a breathtaking Napolean III townhouse while learning about the history of perfume. The museum features perfumery objects from various time periods. It's certainly worth a visit to see the lovely home and decor alone.

5. Free Galleries Lafayette Fashion Shows

Few things scream Paris more than fashion. You can feel like one of the elite without even opening your Gucci purse by attending one of the weekly fashion shows at the Paris Galleries Lafayette department store (grand magasin). They are held each Friday at 3 p.m.
