Walking Tour of Nice's Cours Saleya Flower Market

From Kelby Carr, for About.com

3 of 6

Examine the dizzying selection!

You will see the tents of the market up ahead. Before buying anything, make one pass along the length of the market. You will spot what appear to be the largest, most alluring oranges you've ever seen ... until you walk down to the next vendor. Before you buy anything, keep in mind that you will probably need to use it or trash it before you leave (although you can probably get away with taking spices home, and some vendors do sell small housewares). Still, why not buy a bunch of flowers for your hotel room? Or some fresh fruit for tomorrow's breakfast? Or some golfball-sized marinated olives to nibble with cocktails in the afternoon? Or some peasant bread to snack on while you sight-see? There are plenty of options for consuming the market's wares before you head back home.
