Summer Events in France

Tour de France racers at the Paris Hotel de Ville

Summer has probably the highest concentration of festivals and events of the entire year. It's the time of two of the major events of the year in France, the Tour de France and Bastille Day. The summer time is also when the French take extended vacations, many times hitting the popular shore cities and towns. This lends the entire country a bit of a fun vacation feeling.

French Beaches

La Croix Valmer's Beach in Provence

Think summer, and you naturally think of beaches. Although France doesn't automatically come to mind with those who think beach, it should. There are literally hundreds of miles of shore up against major bodies of water such as an ocean, sea, and countless lakes and rivers.

Camping is a wonderful summertime lodging option that is probably more comfortable and mainstream than you think, and the French campgrounds have a government-regulated star rating system just like hotels do.
