Cathedral Tour Stop Three: Nice's Russian Orthodox Cathedral

In Nice, the Russian Orthodox Cathedral, also called the Eglise Russe or Cathédrale Saint Nicolas, is like a glimpse of Moscow on the Mediterannean. Its onions stretch to the sky, poking up between tropical palm trees in a unique contrast. The church features rich beige and teal colors. Built in 1912, the cathedral was established for the influx of Russian aristocrats who headed south to balmy Nice for vacations. The city also features several other Russian historic attractions.

Lodging options

The Hotel Windsor is one of the best hotels in Europe, not because it is so upscale. Instead, it is thanks to the hotel's ever-helpful staff and its character, such as the rooms filled with murals by local artists. Le Grimaldi is a great four-star hotel situated in lovely Belle Epoque buildings.
