French provincial furniture makers have been using lime for faux finishes for centuries. Lime-based faux finishes can achieve remarkably different effects - on furniture and walls. Traditional techniques produce effects that can be colorful or monochrome, waxed, waterproof or washed. Objects finished in this way are usually pretty expensive. And the craftsmen required to apply such colorful, designer finishes to walls are almost impossible to find.

You could learn how to use these ancient techniques yourself. Why not try your hand and learn how to apply limed faux finishes during your next vacation in the South of France? In the small, Rhone-side town of Beaucaire, Artisan Bruno Hugounenq, of Atelier Ravanille et Framboise gives short courses in faux finishes, using lime and limed effects for walls, objects and decorated furniture. The course covers all aspects of preparation, application and finishing. Those attending take home plaques showing their work on three different surface materials.
