The Bottom Line
This hotel offers a lot of bang for the euro. It is situated in the heart of things, near Notre Dame cathedral, the quaint Ile Saint Louis, just across the Seine from major sites like the Louvre, and close to the hip Latin Quarter. But it's also off a quiet side street that provides some sanctuary. The rooms are a bit small with some retro decor, but they do have a bit of character with touches like exposed beams. All in all, a good choice.
Pros
- Great location
- Reasonable price
- Can hear Notre Dame's bells in some rooms
Cons
- Rooms can be small
- Decor is a bit dated
- Some staff members could be a bit friendlier
Description
- The rooms are cozy, if a bit cramped.
- Our room just had a bathtub, which can be a bit strange for Americans used to quick showers.
- The ceilings in many rooms are slanted, adding a bit of character. Some rooms have exposed beams.
- The lobby is quite atmospheric, with comfortable couches for relaxing.
- Get up early to grab a free English-language International Herald Tribune before they are all gone.
- This hotel is conveniently located a short walk from the RER line from the airport.
Guide Review - Hotel de Notre Dame Review
The Hotel de Notre Dame doesn't look like much on the outside, since it simply has a small storefront for the lobby. But this little inn packs a lot of punch. I'm not sure you could pick a better spot. If you flung a dart at the heart of Paris on a map, you'd practically nail this hotel on the Rue d'Maitre Albert. (Don't confuse this hotel with any of a number of other Notre Dame hotels).
The staff is a bit of a mixed bag. Some front desk attendants were quite friendly and helpful. Others were a bit distant. One was just downright rude.
The hotel is best suited to those travelers who are a bit independent. This isn't the George V (see the link for a review of that luxury hotel at the bottom of this article). It is perfect, however, if you are self-sufficient. Within a one-block radius, you can find a dry cleaner, about four grocery stores, several cafes, etc.
