About.com Rating four out of Five

By Kelby Carr, About.com

The Bottom Line

This is a great hotel in a perfect location, almost dead center in the city. The architecture is unique, as this was once a tennis court. Prices are reasonable, with some rooms as low as 152 euros.

Pros

  • Great Location
  • Unique architecture
  • Friendly, courteous staff

Cons

  • Large rooms and suites can get pricy

Description

  • As you enter the hotel, the unique design and exposed woodean beams of the building dominate.
  • Ride the glass elevator up to gaze down on the courtyard inside. The center of the building is open.
  • The rooms are tastefully decorated. The rooms are spacious.
  • Be sure to wander the Ile Saint Louis, visiting boutique shops, dining, hanging out at a jazz club.
  • Don't miss the chance to have an island exclusive: Berthillon ice cream.

Guide Review - Jeu de Paume in Paris Hotel Review

During a visit to Paris, I happened on the Jeu de Paume while looking for a hotel (I was not pleased with my other hotel). I had no reservations, but they accomodated my husband and I (by putting is in a couple different rooms) in short order. Although it was just chance wandering that brought us to Le Jeu, it turned out to be one of my favorite French hotels. It mixes the regal with the unique, the modern with the antique, all with ease. The best thing about the hotel is its former incarnation as a royal tennis court. Every time we rode the glass elevator, I stared down in awe at the open courtyard. It was open from the ground floor up to the ceiling a few stories up, with rooms hugging the perimeter.
