The Nice Carnival hasá just started, filling the wide boulevards and green squares of the Queen of the Mediterranean with long, colorful processions. 18 floats move along with huge decorations on the Place MassÚna. Beside them walk over 1,000 musicians and dancers from all over the world while 30 traditional papier mache figures are carried along.
Among the highlights are the flower battles on the Promenade des Anglais. Buy a ticket to the stands and watch as the characters on the floats throw out mimosa, lilies and gerberas to the crowds. In the evenings the processions are lit up against the darkening blue sky.
Each year there's a different theme; 2013 is devoted to the King of the Five Continents, a tribute to the fact that Nice is playing host to the French speakers games (sporting and artistic events held every 4 years) September 6th to 15th, 2013.
