Two great reasons to visit Lille on the weekend of December 7th to 9th. First up is the Fashion Market (Le Marche des modes) from December 7th to 9th. Appropriately held in Roubaix, one of France's great historic textile centers and still a training ground for designers, the market has around 100 designers selling their ready-to-wear fashion, jewelery and accessories. You can't call yourself a fashionista unless you've bought here. It's been held here since 2002 at the ENSAIT (Ecole National Superieure des Arts et Industries Textiles).

Open to the public on Friday 4pm to 9pm; Saturday 11am to 11pm and Sunday 11am to 7pm.

Please note: The information on the website is not up to date, but the event is happening. Check at the Lille Tourist Office, or the Roubaix Tourist Office for more details.
Roubaix is also the place for another extraordinary event on the same weekend: the Artistic Bazaar or La Braderie de l'Art. This the the market where you can buy, exchange, collect, sell or recycle objects. It began in 1991 and is a roaring success.
The idea is to make you rethink today's consumer society by getting you to look at everyday objects in a very different light. Artists are there, transforming just about everything into art. Reclaimed materials from waste paper bins to old chairs are renewed to become...works of art. It's great fun and you can talk to the creators and who knows? Maybe you will create something that will be a masterpiece in years to come (or go back to the fair next year to be reborn). The location is a bonus -- it's in the impressive Belle Epoque building that over a hundred years ago tested the quality of the wool that was being used in Roubaix's huge textile business
