The Brittany Film Festival of Dinard may not be as famous as the May Cannes Film Festival, but it's a firm favorite on the calendar. Devoted to British films, it's popular for its annual Golden Hitchcock Award. There are five different venues for the screenings, some of which are free.
In competition this year are six films from less well-known film makers. There are also tributes to John Schlesinger, Charles Dickens and Tom Courtney so expect a real feast of nostalgia. Apart from talks on Dickens, you can see Great Expectations, Oliver Twist and Nicholas Nickleby. From John Schlesinger, who molded the ideals and loves of a whole generation, there's A Kind of Loving, Billy Liar and Darling with Julie Christie and Dirk Bogarde with screenplay by Frederic Raphael. Tom Courtney was the unlikely pin-up who made Dr Zhivago, The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner and The Dresser as well as One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich.
As an added bonus and reason to visit Dinard, there are three days of recent British films to enjoy for free, from September 30th to October 2.
