The annual Aurillac Street Theater Festival, this year from August 18th to 21st, is the biggest street theater festival in France. It takes place in Aurillac, the capital of the Auvergne which also happens to be the umbrella-making capital of France - but that's no reflection on the weather. And that is particularly lucky for this year's Festival as it's the venue for American artist Spencer Tunick's latest gathering of people who bare all to become part of a work of art on August 20th.
The Festival is international, with groups and individuals from all over the world taking part, covering all aspects of human life. The French Compagnie Internationale Alligator brings the French Revolution to the 21st century with 1789 seconds. The citizen public is thrown into the years of enlightenment, darkness, passion and the subject of human rights. Like 1789 seconds, many of the apparently chaotic or anarchic acts have a serious purpose behind them, causing you to ponder on the great issues of life, including the exploitation of women, sex and politics. Enjoy!
