Cannes Film Festival Today - Joaquin Phoenix in Two Lovers and Versailles
Today at Cannes Film Festival, the film Two Lovers is being screened in competition. It is directed by James Gray, whose having his third Cannes appearance. The film stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Joaquin Phoenix and Isabella Rossellini.
The synopsis of the film states:
A depressed young man’s life is turned around after he moves back in with his parents and two women enter it – a beautiful volatile neighbor trapped in an affair and the lovely daughter of a close family friend.
What should interest francophiles even more, however, would be the film screening for Un Certain Regard today, Versailles.
Here is the synopsis of Versailles:
Paris, today. A child and his young mother sleep on the streets. Nina is unemployed with no ties. Enzo is 5. Their drifting leads them to Versailles.In the woods near the palace, a man lives in a hut, cut off from everything. Damien.
Nina spends a night with him. Early the next morning, Nina leaves the child and vanishes. When he wakes, Damien finds Enzo alone. As the days and seasons pass, the man and the child get acquainted, start to get along and grow fond of each other. Their bond will be as strong as their destitution.
However, they will have to leave the hut one day…
