France Rioting Starting to Slow Down

Wednesday November 9, 2005

The rioting in France has begun to slow down, with a drop nearly in half Wednesday in the number of car burnings, according to ABC News. This came shortly after a state of emergency was declared Tuesday. The riots were prompted after two Muslim youths were electrocuted, reportedly while hiding from police. The riots were initially confined to the Paris suburbs, but at their peak this week spread to about 300 French towns.

Whether the violence will put a damper on travel to France still remains to be seen. The world's most popular tourist destination, France has already suffered setbacks in recent years due to France bashing around the time of the start of the Iraq War.

What is your take on the issue? You can click on the "Comments" button at the bottom of this blog post on the Paris riots. Also, be sure to vote in my poll. So far, people are primarily split almost evenly between two extremes: either voters say they will definitely be turned off from visiting France by the riots, or they say it will not impact their travel plans in any way. Most voters in the poll have strong feelings about the issue. How about you?
