Tour de France 2005 Daily Blog - Stage Twelve

The race takes off from Briançon, an enchanting medieval village overlooking five valleys. The day's stage ends at Dignes-les-Bains, the lavender capital. Nestled in the High Alps, or Alpes de Haute Provence, Digne-les-Bains is probably best known for its thermal waters and related therapies. This is the only French department with a rate of childhood asthma that is actually at zero per 1,000 children.
Results and standings
France has garnered a Bastille Day victory, with French nationals winning three of the top four slots of the day. David Moncoutie placed first (his second stage win in two years), Sandy Casar came in second and Patrice Halgand ranked fourth. This marks the first French stage win this year.
The top 10 for general clafficiation has not changed, so Lance Armstrong will continue to wear the yellow jersey. The top 10 for Stage 12:
