Tour de France 2005 Daily Blog - Stage Two

Sunday July 3, 2005
Stage Two launches from Challans, the second-largest town in the Vendée. It is close to Atlantic Ocean beaches, and the atmosphere here is lively. The city's markets are overflowing with native produce. Its historic riches include a lovely Medieval church. The race will end today at Les Essarts, a haven for hikers with numerous routes des randonnée in the area. There is the impressive 11th century Chateau des Essarts. It is also an ideal destination for horseback riding, golf and fishing.
